Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS, is one of the most common chronic diseases faced by women of reproductive age. Although a single cause is yet to be found for PCOS, it is often attributed to stress and a less than healthy lifestyle.

While there is no known cure for healing PCOS, there's enough scientific evidence to show that yoga asanas for PCOS, meditation and breathwork can help manage its symptoms.

Irregular or no menstrual cycles, hair loss, hirsutism, excessive acne, weight gain and even infertility are symptoms of PCOS that can be reversed or managed holistically.



Here are a few asanas that can help alleviate PCOS symptoms:

1. Chakkichalasana


Ten rounds, practiced clockwise and anti clockwise. Strengthens pelvic muscles, increases circulation to reproductive organs and improves the health of the ovaries and the uterus.



2. Suryanamaskar

Increases metabolic rate, reduces insulin resistance and helps accelerate weight loss.





3. Yoga Nidra

Practiced for 30-40 minutes, it helps the body to enter a state of deep relaxation while allowing the mind to stay alert. This relieves the stress caused by PCOS.





Practiced regularly for three rounds each, these asanas open up the hips, relax and strengthen pelvic muscles, improves blood circulation to reproductive organs and counters PCOS symptoms.





5. Naukasana:

3 rounds of Naukasana practiced regularly can also improve blood circulation, stretch the pelvic floor and counter PCOS systems.





6. Bhramari Pranayama & Yoni Mudra:

Practiced three to five times a day, Bhramari Pranayama calms down the mind and corrects hormonal imbalances caused by stress. The Yoni Mudra helps to improve menstrual function.

There are many more asanas and pranayama routines that can be explored in depth on the Aayu app.

Swimming, Aqua Aerobics, Zumba, Resistance Training, for thirty minutes daily, also count as PCOS cure exercise. They can help improve menstrual function and ovulation. To see the best results, move slowly and mindfully with sufficient resting periods in between asanas.
